At Resource 1, we know what a difference it makes to work alongside a team of people who you enjoy spending time with. Our Resource 1:1 interviews provide a fun peek behind the scenes to get to know each of our team members. Today, we’re excited to showcase Allison Drechny, a Recruiting Associate at Resource 1. Allison is one of the first people candidates speak to when they first start engaging with our firm. It’s up to Allison to find out more about each candidate and discern whether they are a fit for one of our available IT positions. Read on to find out more about Allison.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I remember that in Kindergarten, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. I also wanted to be a horse trainer! I went to the zoo a lot as a child and loved animals.

How did you get introduced to Resource 1?

In 2021, I graduated with a master’s degree in organizational psychology. I looked particularly into recruiter jobs, because it seemed to align with what I had learned in school. After I applied at Resource 1, I had several interviews and by the time I was done interviewing, I had met the entire R1 team. Everyone was so friendly, and it seemed like a great fit, so I thought “let’s go for it” and I accepted the offer.

What do you enjoy the most about working for Resource 1?

I had very little IT knowledge coming into this job and was nervous about that, as my job would involve talking with very high-level IT professionals, but everyone at Resource 1 has been so willing to teach me and help me learn every day. I love the people here—I love hearing the stories of people who have worked here for so long and have basically grown up together in their careers. It’s been really fun.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I went skydiving after I graduated from high school. I had already done indoor skydiving with friends, and I figured it would be great to do the real thing. I’m not sure I’d ever do it again, but it sounded like a good idea at the time, and it was definitely an experience!

What song would you describe as the soundtrack of your life?

It seems cliché but “Life Is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts. It speaks to how you just have to take life as it comes at you.

If you could time travel, what era of time would you go to?

The ‘80s. I really like ‘80s music, and it seemed like a super fun era. My parents were in their prime age in the ‘80s, so I’d love to go back and experience it with them.

What’s a hobby that few people know about?

I like to work out a lot. I go to the gym a couple of times a week. I’m also on a recreational flag football team—we won the championship last fall!

What does a perfect weekend look like for you?

I’d wake up and go for a workout first. I really love to read, so I’d find a cool library to visit—the Harold Washington Library in downtown Chicago is a good example of one on my list to visit. I’d also meet up with my parents and family to go to dinner and hang out.

If you could hop on a plane to anywhere, where would you go?

I’ve always wanted to go to Greece or Italy. I just want to sit on the beach next to super blue, clear water. I’ve also always wanted to see the Colosseum. I really love sunsets, so no matter where I go, I’m looking for the best sunset spots.

Where was your most memorable vacation?

Eight years ago, my parents and I went to London and Paris for their anniversary trip, and they were nice enough to take me along. We went to all the tourist sites, and I’d love to go back some time.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

Super speed! I’d get errands and chores done really quickly and then have more free time to do the fun stuff. I’d also be able to get places really fast and save money and gas—very eco-friendly!

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?

I’d go on a trip somewhere—Greece or Italy, and maybe Norway as I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights—and I’d bring my parents to return the favor. I’d probably save a lot of the winnings as I’m pretty money conscious. I’d pay off my student loans and donate to a charity like a cancer foundation.

Any last fun facts?

Thanks to my Dad who loves Star Wars, I have a huge knowledge of Star Wars—I can win any trivia game!

Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your life, Allison! Thank you for everything you do at Resource 1.
