At Resource 1, we take pride in the upstanding people on our team. Our Resource 1:1 interviews offer an interesting peek into each of their lives, going beyond their professional roles. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Alyssa Visage, Account Manager at Resource 1. Alyssa is responsible for connecting with prospects, building relationships, and managing requisitions when a client has new positions that need to be filled. Read on to learn more about her interests and favorite parts of work.

How did you find yourself at Resource 1?

While I majored in kinesiology in college, I quickly realized I wanted a career path change. I was great at talking to people and really competitive, so it made sense to dive into sales. After seeking a role in tech or healthcare—something that’s always in demand—I saw a post from Resource 1 on LinkedIn and was immediately interested. After being interviewed by the whole team over several meetings, I loved the company and excitedly accepted the position.

What do you love most about working for Resource 1?

Definitely the people. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. We’re all passionate about tech, and everyone is super smart and eager for you to do well. It’s super motivating and allows me to learn a lot.

What was your first job?

When I was 15 or 16, I worked at a privately-owned hamburger joint. My best friends, brother, and I all worked there together, and it was a great time.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to own a pet store, similar to PetSmart, but take in animals in need and find them permanent homes. I drew pictures of the store I imagined! When I was just 8 years old, I started saving up, starting with only $4, so that I could make this dream happen!

What does a perfect weekend look like for you?

I can’t really sleep in, so I would start my day early by going boating on the river and dock at Kankakee River. There are islands with rope swings and a whole community out there. I also love tubing, water skiing, and swimming in the river. On Sunday, I would try to sleep in, swim, and hang out with family.

What’s a hobby of yours that few people know about?

I play bingo a lot. I love bingo and all the different variations—like Singo, where they play songs, and trivia bingo. I go with my family and friends at least once a week. There are interesting prizes, so it’s a lot of fun.Boat

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Snorkeling in the Bahamas! I’ve been terrified of the ocean since I was a kid, so it was too scary. I would never go snorkeling again in the ocean.

Where was your most memorable vacation?

I went with my two best friends to Cancun. We went snorkeling in very shallow water—not deep in the ocean like in the Bahamas!—and saw lots of little islands. It was my first time in Mexico, and we stayed at an all-inclusive resort.

What would be on your bucket list if money were no object?

I really want to go on a road trip in the northwest states—Washington, Idaho, Oregon—to camp, hike, and be in nature. It looks beautiful.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever been given?

The opportunity to go to college. My parents paid for me to go to University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. They never got the chance to attend college, but they made it happen for me.

If you had a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

Time travel! I would relive special memories—beautiful, fun days, not necessarily holidays. I would also go into the future to make sure nothing bad happens. I’d like to be able to predict and prevent things.

What’s the last picture you took on your phone?

The river. I also took some pictures of my dogs, two 3-year-old German shepherds named Jax and Roxie at their birthday party!

What would be the soundtrack of your life?

“Vienna” by Billy Joel. I love that song and it makes me tear up. It reminds me to slow down and appreciate where I’m at.

Alyssa, thank you for giving us a glimpse into your life and interests. We appreciate all you do at Resource 1!
